11:00 AM, July 30, AMOREPACIFIC Corp. (President and CEO, Suh Kyung-bae) opened a signing ceremony with Dept. of Dermatology, Seoul National University (DDSNU) for academic collaborations. This signing ceremony was opened at SNU Hospital (SNUH) located in Hyehwa-dong, Seoul in the presence of Hak-hee Kang, chief director of AmorePacific R&D Institute and Baek Jae-Seung, chief director of Clinical Research Institution, SNUH. 
AmorePacific has already collaborated with DDSNU since July 1999. This singing ceremony aims to sign on the 3rd collaboration project (from July 2009 to June 2014) between both parties. And the 3rd collaboration project aims to achieve best quality of technological strength in skin technology (especially, skin aging) around the globe and keep corresponding competitive edges in this field. 
From 1999, the 1st collaboration project between AmorePacific and DDSNU (from July 1999 to June 2004) focused on basic researches into characterization of modern Korean skins and skin aging, and the 2nd collaboration project between both parties (July 2004 to June 2009) has dealt with basic researches on new discovery of skin aging mechanism as well as freckles and melasma, while focusing on researches into possible ways to improve industrial applications of academic findings for prevention and treatment of skin aging. 
In order to develop "skin anti-aging techniques for the next generation", Prof. Jeong Jin-Ho (DDSNU), the chief supervisor of this 3rd collaboration project, expressed his strong intentions to dedicate himself to developing "original anti-aging mechanism and innovative whitening mechanism" and publishing his findings to academic journals with global prestige and authority. Based on DDSNU's "skin anti-aging techniques for the next generation", AmorePacific will be committed to developing efficacy of key botanic materials like ginseng, green tea, and bean. Moreover, AmorePacific will keep a series of long-term academic collaborations in basic dermatological studies with DDSNU, the best and leading skin specialist group in Korea, aiming to build up its technical competitiveness to target future global cosmetics market. 
On the other hand, AmorePacific has established a proactive C&D (Connect& Development) network with superior universities and institutes, whether domestic or overseas, and dedicates itself to acquiring original technology through bold investment in basic dermatological researches. In academic collaborations with Prof. David A. Weitz (Physics, Harvard University), AmorePacific has developed pseudo skin cell as a raw material for cosmetics for the first time in the world and plans to launch its applied cosmetic product in market during the latter half of this year. And in collaborations with dermatology departments of Peking University, Fudan University, and Sichuan University, AmorePacific has developed a specialized cosmetic product reflecting Chinese women's skin characteristics, their local environment and climate, expanding its R&D efforts for global market.

The Department of Dermatology is subsidiary to College of Medicine, SNU and is also both skin specialist group and research institute. DDSNU has accounted for most of domestic academic reports published on basic and clinical studies in general dermatology including skin aging, whitening, atopy and hair. DDSNU has published its major findings such as judgment criteria of adult wrinkle among Korean men and women; judgment criteria of Korean skin pigment; new concepts of deterioration and aging; discover of aging-related DNAs; and discovery of major factors on skin homeostasis. Many of findings reported by DDSNU have been employed as reference data for their commercialization in collaboration with industrial parties.
