Indonesian Minister of Science & Technology visits AmorePacific Technical Laboratory (APTL)

AMOREPACIFIC Corp. (President and CEO, Suh Kyung-bae) announced that Mr. Kusmayanto Kadiman, the Indonesian Minister of Science & Technology visited APTL (located in Yongin city, Gyeonggi province) on Sept. 25, 2009 to discuss possible applications of natural materials from Indonesia. 
This visit of Indonesian minister came true owing to the role model of AmorePacific recommended as most appropriate for the Indonesian natural material application project. He was accompanied with Director of Indonesian Food & Drug Administration, Director of Agricultural Department and Indonesian Ambassador to Korea. In this visit, AmorePacific introduced how to excavate and utilize Korean medicinal herb resources and natural materials for cosmetics and food industry, and also discussed with Indonesian representatives on possible applications of various Indonesian natural materials including ‘Jamu (an Indonesian native plant).’ Moreover, AmorePacific introduced its product development process and excellent equipments and facilities to Indonesian visitors at APTL. 
In regard to applications of Indonesian natural materials, AmorePacific has conducted studies on ‘panduratin’, a medicinal herb plant which is already widely used as folk medicine in Indonesia. AmorePacific acquired a patent for the raw cosmetic material based on anti-acne and anti-inflammatory substances extracted from panduratin, and applied them to ‘IOPE Trouble Line’ launched in May 2008. 
Mr. Hak-hee Kang, the chief director of AmorePacific Technical Laboratory (APTL), expressed his impressions, saying “I'll hope that this visit will help us to make synergic relationships with Indonesian industrial authority, and we'll keep discussing various applications of natural materials and try our best to develop and provide better quality products.” 
On the other hand, AMOREPACIFIC Corp. has been conducting a series of studies on natural materials, recognizing that such studies can bring core biological and dermatological technologies to drive future cosmetics industry around the world. In order to make commercial applications of natural materials, AmorePacific has made agrements with the authorities of the regions that have a wealth of traditional medicines and natural resources. And it has deployed a series of activities to discover native rare plants all over the world including geopolitically special regions (e.g. the polar regions) and environmentally extreme regions (e.g. desert regions). In this March, for instance, AmorePacific held a ceremony to sign on MOU with International Biological Material Research Center (IBMRC) under the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) for researches on possible applications of plant diversity resources. In last year, it collaborated with Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in a research project to analyze more than 500 kinds of Russian natural resources and investigate their efficacy, so that they could extract about 30 select and useful resources.
