AMOREPACIFIC Corp. (President and CEO, Suh Kyung-bae) will become the first Korean beauty corporation to officially sponsor and participate in the 22nd World Congress of Dermatology, hereunder WCD, hosted at Seoul Samsung-dong COEX from May 24th to 29th.
WCD is a grand scale international congress where dermatological scholars come together, and Korea is the second Asian country to have succeeded in becoming the host of the congress since it was hosted by Tokyo, Japan in 1982. Accordingly, it is anticipated that the global dermatological science field will be focused on Asian Beauty, especially ‘Korean Beauty (美)’.
Through a variety of academic works throughout the WCD, AMOREPACIFIC Corp. plans to showcase ‘Asian Beauty’ that harmonizes the beauty elements of the Orient with the world’s dermatological technology as the standard for New Beauty, which is different from the existing concept of beauty sought in the West.
Of the companies participating in the congress, AMOREPACIFIC Corp. has been attracting special attention, as it is expected to present the highest number of Skin Science and Technology papers. Innovative technology research papers will be presented on topics that make Asian Beauty a reality through the researches on the effectiveness of beans, ginseng, and green tea (the three long-term key ingredients of AMOREPACIFIC’s R&D Centers) on skin and the skin aging among Asian women.
AMOREPACIFIC Corp. will also display major global brand products and technology, such as Sulwhasoo, Laneige, and MAMONDE, thereby showcasing the beauty of Asia to the dermatological scientists of the world. In particular, it is anticipated that Sulwhasoo, Korea’s leading premium herbal medicine brand, will draw in huge interest in Asian Beauty from the world’s dermatological scientists by introducing ginseng, an ingredient distinct to Asia, along with herbal medicine technology. Eco-bags filled with products from the three brands along with ‘Asian Skin and Disease’ CD produced by WCD, will be handed out to dermatological scientists visiting the booth to provide further opportunities to experience Asian Beauty.
Additionally, through this congress, AMOREPACIFIC Corp. plans to enhance the facilitation of global business by establishing a network of dermatological scientists from the world’s major cities. In particular, by holding a symposium on the topic of the aging of Asian skin (Topic: ‘New Insights in Skin Aging for Asian Beauty’), the company plans to establish a network of 400 dermatological scientists from around the world as well as major dermatological scientists from Korea. There are also plans in place to run an R&D Center tour program, including showcasing Asian Beauty and sustainable R&D sites, which will be targeted at 200 dermatological scientists from major strategic cities in the Latin American and Asian regions. As such, it is expected that a concentrated network of major global dermatological scientists will be created through the opportunities.

The World Congress of Dermatology, held every 4 years, is a large-scale international congress known as the Dermatological Science Olympics, which has been running continuously on for 120 years since it was first established in 1889 in Paris, France. Korea is the second Asian country to have succeeded in becoming the host of the congress since it was hosted by Tokyo, Japan in 1982, demonstrating the extent to which the dermatological science field is focused on Asian beauty, especially ‘Korean Beauty (美)’.
The 22nd World Congress of Dermatology (www.wcd2011.org) with ‘Connecting the World through Innovative Dermatology’ as its theme, will be hosted at COEX, Samsung-dong, Seoul, from May 24th to 29th. 10,000 dermatologists, health professionals and Cosmetic Industry representatives from over 100 countries are expected to attend, and it is anticipated to be the largest medical conference ever hosted by Korea.
The main learning programs of the World Congress of Dermatology are organized under the leadership of the International League of Dermatologic Societies (ILDS). The current host, the Korean Dermatological Association, is planning and developing programs commissioned by the International League of Dermatological Societies. The conference programs arranged throughout the congress will cover a range of topics, such as basic dermatological science, pediatric dermatology, skin surgery, and skin care. These programs will include 29 special lectures, 79 symposiums, 80 workshops, 30 KDA seminars, and lecture sessions with diverse subjects.
