AESTURA, Amorepacific's authentic derma brand, participated as an official sponsor of KDD 2026, a premier global AI conference, showcasing its research capabilities combining dermatological science and AI while presenting advancements in its AI skin analysis service.
The Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD) 2026 Korea Day, held on August 11 at the International Convention Center Jeju, featured approximately 3,500 AI experts and developers from around the world, including major Korean AI companies. Participating in a special session, AESTURA shared the achievements of its enhanced AI skin analysis service integrating dermatologist assessment criteria and presented its vision for the future.
During the session, Professor Hei Sung Kim from the Department of Dermatology at Incheon St. Mary's Hospital (Catholic University of Korea), an academic advisor for the AESTURA Advisory Research Group, and Joey Ahnn, Head of the Amorepacific AX Division, gave a joint presentation titled "Dermatology, Decoded by AI: Integrating Dermatologist Expertise into Everyday Skincare." Professor Kim introduced an advanced AI model that applies actual dermatological analysis criteria to precisely analyze a total of 33 items beyond conventional skin assessment. Professor Kim's research team built a clinical dataset for AI training through direct labeling and de-identification performed by dermatologists, using approximately 750 patient data entries and about 1,000 data entries sourced from the general public by Amorepacific's Clinical Lab. This significantly broadened the scope of analysis by training the system on 29 additional skin conditions in addition to existing assessments of pores, wrinkles, redness, and skin spots.
Joey Ahnn, Head of Amorepacific's AX Division, emphasized that the shared goal of beauty and dermatology is "healthy skin," highlighting AI as a core technology bridging both fields. He then introduced AESTURA's mid-to-long-term AI technology roadmap aimed at advancing AI-based skin analysis and delivering personalized skincare experiences.
AESTURA plans to further improve the accuracy of its AI skin analysis service by continuously advancing machine learning technology and expanding clinical-based big data training based on real patients through federated learning technology. Through this, the brand aims to build a precise AI skin analysis ecosystem where consumers can benefit from feedback incorporating dermatological assessment expertise in their daily lives.
An AESTURA representative stated, "This project holds significant meaning in that it established the foundation for an AI skin analysis service incorporating dermatologist expertise beyond routine skin assessments. We will continue to deliver dependable skincare solutions to consumers through innovations combining AI technology and dermatological research."
